Job Requirement Index Standard (JORIS™)
The technology behind KRAZOOM involved years of research and development about job requirements and their relevance in job postings. The result of this effort is the Job Requirement Index Standard (JORIS™), a proprietary standard about education and skill needs of employers in North America. JORIS™ was developed by SkillPROOF Inc., a leading labor research company in Connecticut.
JORIS™ provides the opportunity for job seekers to express their education and skills for their job search. JORIS™ is comprised of several thousand education and skill requirements used by employers in job postings. A job seeker may select as many items from JORIS™ as necessary to describe their background.
JORIS™ Solves Major Keyword Search Problems
JORIS™ solves frequent problems job seekers encounter in a keyword search.
1) Keywords
A keyword search is a guessing game. You guess words which you believe maybe in the text of the documents you are looking for. If the search result does not return good results you try again. Part of the problem is that a handfull of keywords do not contain much information. The fewer keywords you provide the less relevant the search result will be. The more keywords you provide the worse the search result becomes (see Search Result Choking below).
This does not happen with JORIS™. JORIS™ is an index of job requirements contained in job postings hence eliminating the need to guess. The more complete you select your skills and education from JORIS the better the match results will be.
2) Search Result Choking
Choking of search results is a common problem with a keyword search. Enter a single keyword and you will receive a long list of results with little relevance. Add a couple of keywords for a more meaningful search criteria and the results disappear. It frustrates every job seeker.
KRAZOOM uses JORIS™ allowing job seekers to describe their background with as many skills and educations as necessary. Job seekers can prioritize individual skills and educations to focus on the most relevant job opportunities.
3) Unspecific Requirements / Term Expansion
Another loss for job seekers are unspecific requirements in job postings. Employers may consider job seekers for a position who have a range of backgrounds. A position may be requiring an "Engineering Degree" which opens the job for a broad range of job seekers.
On KRAZOOM job seekers select the most specific requirements from JORIS™. The search result will be sorted from the most specific matches to the least. So, if you have a Bachelors in Computer Engineering, KRAZOOM will include job postings where any Engineering Degree qualifies for the position. This automatic "Term Expansion" generates opportunities which would be lost otherwise.
4) Term Variation
There are no rules how employers phrase the same requirement in job postings. The requirement "Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering" is frequently found as:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- BS Mechanical Engineering
- BS Mech. Eng.
- BSME
- BS ME (note the space between BS and ME)
- B.S.M.E.
With a keyword search job seekers have to try every possibility to find all opportunities, a tedious and time consuming process.
KRAZOOM recognizes the different styles of abbreviation and links them to the appropriate JORIS™ requirement.
5) Misspelled Requirements
In the fast paced world of human resources, writers of job postings may misspell important requirements. If an employer requires Microsoft Office skills, they may have spelled Bill Gates' company:
- Mircosoft
- Micosoft
- Micorsoft
- Micrsoft
- Microsft
Spelling errors are frequent! If a company is looking for a Programmer with "Pearl" (misspelled) skills, they are not looking for someone with jewelry experience but for someone who can program in Perl (correct spelling). And although we all pronounce it "HIPPA" the correct spelling is HIPAA. Pick any major job board and try it yourself.
KRAZOOM recognizes important but misspelled words. This way a job seeker does not miss such opportunities.
